A hint of spring

Wednesday and half of Thursday was AMAZING! After a week of single digit weather, New England's two day heat wave (50 degrees and overcast) brought me outside in spring-ish skirts and dresses. I love coordinating different parts of my ensemble with the same pattern, color, or material (case in point: striped shoes and shirt!).

Mod Squad!

What's the easiest way to catch a flu? Take pictures for your style blog in mid January of course! Today's outfit is very 60's inspired with an A-line circular print jacket I found thrifting a while ago and tailored printed shorts. Also, I've recently loved layering statement necklaces under my button downs: insta-fem!

Hermes x Commes Des Garçons Collaboration

Here is a first peak at the Hermes x Commes Des Garçons scarf capsule collection, originally announced in November.

Commes des Garçons' Rei Kawakubo brings a youthful and mod vibe to Hermes' everlasting stylish prints. These scarfs are a beautiful fusion of a 175 year old classic and a vibrant look ahead. Predictably, I love the goldenrod equestrian print reworked with black and powder blue dots.

Just 200 copies of each scarf will be for sale exclusively at the Dover Street Market on February 6. The scarfs ring in at traditional Hermes price points, ranging between $493 and $2,076. 

A new addition

Happy Saturday! I especially love this post because of my new bag, a gift from my boyfriend. I am a notoriously hard person to get gifts for (and/or shop with depending on who you ask). That never gets him down though, he has a knack for finding such classically beautiful and quirky things. I absolutely love how it photographs and looks in person. Its incredibly well made and looks like a prop off a Wes Anderson movie-- perfect.

Spring 2013 Couture, Day One: Alexis Mabille

While I wouldn't mind snagging one (or a few) of Christian Dior's embroidered gowns from yesterday's show, Alexis Mabille's charming and beautifully crafted collection won me over for day one of spring 2013 couture fashion week. In his premier as an official Paris couture house, Mabille held true to his love of bows and embellishments yet appeased past critique by staying within a muted palette (for the most part). The result: A modern day revival of Marie Antoinette's infamously playful and frothy wardrobe. If you had any doubts of this, the models' frosted hair and the bubble-gum pink venue definitely lent a hand to the cause.

His craftsmanship rang loud and clear throughout, but especially in the his pieces integrating lace, netting, chiffon, and dotted vailing. Each piece was delightfully bourgeois yet modern.

I especially loved his series of mermaid silhouetted gowns. Of these, the double-breasted belted tuxedo dress would definitely be the frock of choice for modern Marie Antoinette's sultry night out with her handsome Swedish boo, Hans Axel von Fersen.

Before, his pièce de résistance, Mabille rounded out the show with four vibrant gowns that brought to mind a fireworks finale on a warm Parisian night.

Sensual Saturday

I was perusing my friend Mu's blog last night and found a post she had reposted on the installation of 28,000 potted flowers in an abandoned mental institution by the artist Anna Schuleit. The sensuous installation, appropriately called BLOOM invoked a striking calm, even whimsy, in the entire building that dismissed any decrepit prejudice that may accompany an abandoned mental hospital. The fragrant perfume of the flowers cancelled out any traditional stink accompanying the old facility. In pictures of the exhibition, the different colors’ reflection on the different textured walls creates a range in thoughts and emotions perhaps felt by patients and people involved during the hospital’s 91 years of operation. This was assisted by broadcasts over the old telecom system of recorded sounds of the building leading up to is closing in 2003. After the 4 day exhibition, the flowers and sod were donated to psychiatric hospitals, general hospitals, half-way houses, and homeless shelters throughout the surrounding region for many more to enjoy.

Before I did research on BLOOM last night, I thought this post would be more of a "Its lazy Saturday, enjoy yo life!" sort of post. My spirits haven't faltered though and I hope yours haven't either! Take this more as "a stop and smell, see, and hear the roses" sort of message. Its not lazy Saturday, its sensual Saturday!
