What is black, white, and red all over?

Just like most of us after the holidays, our wardrobes are in need of a good dose of detox! The use of a contrasting black and white palette showed up many S/S '13 runways including Jill Sander, Alexander Wang, and Bottega Veneta. Several designers brought the contrasting palette to life utilizing non traditional materials and crisp patterns. My favorite of these renditions was Marc Jacobs. His overhaul of black and white checks and stripes is a much needed breath of fresh air from fall's rich jewel tone obsession. Smell you later oxblood! His collection  evoked an edgy 60's Edie Sedgwick vibe with hot pants, pointed flats, and pixie cuts galore.

In many of the shows this rather tame palette was opposed by splashes of blood red accessories (case in point:  Céline's furry red stilettos).  This is an option to consider when perusing for your more trendy pieces for this season.

This look is super easy to pull together and transitional from work to play.  Pair your classic LBD (sheath or A-line preferably) with a well tailored contrasting coat, classic gold or silver jewelry, and black or white flats.
